Anyone who wants to join the National Guard is required to take a test called the ASVAB, which also stands for Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery. All applicants have to take it, so don’t let this test intimidate you. The ASVAB test is designed to determine your strengths and weaknesses, and it can help decide where you will fit best and succeed. 

If you have doubts and are stressed about this test then you should take an ASVAB practice test. Every person who is getting ready to take this test should be mentally and physically prepared. That is the number one key to succeeding on this test. The ASVAB practice test can help you get prepared for the actual exam in the future. Individuals who study and prepare for this test usually will have no stress on their actual day. 

In order for you to take the test, you will have to speak with your recruiter and schedule a time and a date for you to take it. The ASVAB test is self-paced and usually on a computer. If your first-time results don’t satisfy you then you can retake the test after one month waiting period. The ASVAB test can be taken at any MEPS location near you, or if you don’t live near a MEPS location then it can be arranged for you to take it at a Military Entrance Site.

What Expect On Test Day

On test day you can expect your total testing time to be 3-4 hours for the pencil and paper versions, if your test is on a computer it should generally take you 1-2 hours to complete it. The reason why those times are so different is that if you take it with paper and a pencil you cannot move onto the next section with permission. Now let’s talk about what you should and should not bring with you to your test day. The only items that you can bring with you are, valid ID and everything else will be provided for you there. The items you should not bring are pencils, paper or calculators. Also, cellphones and any other personal items will not be allowed in the testing center. You will also be given all the instructions on what to do and if you have any questions or you’re confused about something don’t be afraid to speak up and ask questions. People that are in charge are there to make sure you succeed and do well.
